Chapter 57 I don’t believe my word (2)
”
Pamo “???”
After a while, he said in awe, “So, you were lurking in Scotland Yard as an undercover agent, and you were exposed?”
“That’s right.”
“…amazing.”
Duan Feizhuo couldn’t laugh or cry when he received Paimo’s praise.
The sun and the moon could not be distinguished in the dungeon, so he couldn’t tell how long he had been here. Twice a day, night guards deliver meals and water, and take away potties. (Duan Feizhuo didn’t know who was doing this work. He speculated that it might be Miss Acheson, because every time the footsteps in the corridor were soft, it was a woman’s footsteps.)
In the beginning, Duan Feizhuo counted the days based on the number of food deliveries, but as time passed, the counting got messed up.
There is more than one mystic locked in the dungeon. From time to time, hysterical roars or crazy ravings could be heard from the left and right. He did not know where Mrs. Boyle was kept. The night guard deliberately kept the two of them far away.
The only person in the surrounding cells who was awake and able to talk was Paimo next door. Thanks to chatting with him, Duan Feizhuo did not fall into a state of madness like other prisoners.
“Where’s your companion Goldstein?”
“He’s not a mystic, he’s locked up somewhere else.”
“Didn’t you volunteer to join the Night Police, why are you still here?”
“Damn it, shut up, they just haven’t figured out what I’m good at, Paimo!”
“Speaking of which, why were you hunted down by the night police?”
“It’s just bad luck. I exposed my identity as a mystic in front of that blind detective. Damn it, he is obviously blind, so why did he notice that I am a mystic!”
“He’s not blind now.”
“Wouldn’t that be even worse!”
After being imprisoned for an unknown number of days, Duan Feizhuo had completely given up hope of regaining his freedom. He was ready to be a neighbor with Paimo for the rest of his life. But on this day, he ushered in an unexpected guest.
There were chaotic footsteps in the corridor, and more than one person entered the dungeon.
Pimo first yelled ecstatically, “Misters and ladies of the Night Watchman! I volunteer to join you! Please let me out! I will change my ways and be a good man!”
But no one paid him any attention. The group stopped in front of Duan Feizhuo’s cell. The secret lock was opened.
“Z!” Duan Feizhuo jumped up hopefully.
However, it wasn’t the white-haired policeman he had been thinking of who entered the door.
“Meet you again.” Secretary Carter looked up at Duan Feizhuo with his nostrils up.
Xenophon and Mr. R stood outside the door, watching all this uneasily.
“Why are you?” Duan Feizhuo raised his eyebrows.
“What’s your tone?” Carter gave him a gouged look, “I’m here to let you out, and you talk to me with this attitude? It seems that someone really needs to teach you what etiquette is, so as not to be rude later. ”
“You? Let me out?” Duan Feizhuo was even more surprised.
Carter snorted, and raised his chin to the two night guards behind him, “Take it away.”
Xenophon and Mr. R looked at each other and shrugged. They escorted Duan Feizhuo out of the cell and followed Carter back to the ground.
Duan Feizhuo thought they were going to the Abnormal Case Investigation Section, but they walked straight past the office door and left the Scotland Yard building.
“Where are we going?” Duan Feizhuo asked Xenophon in a low voice.
“Don’t ask me. I don’t know.” Xenophon muttered.
A luxurious carriage was waiting for them at the door.
Xenophon picked up Duan Feizhuo and stuffed it into the carriage, stood on the ground and silently paid attention to Duan Feizhuo.
Carter climbed into the carriage. He sniffed the air, showing disgust. Duan Feizhuo had been in the dungeon for too long, and his body smell was really bad.
The carriage left Scotland Yard and drove towards an area Duan Feizhuo had never been to.
“Where are we going?” Duan Feizhuo asked Carter the same question.
“You’ll know when you get there.” Carter moved towards the window.
The carriage left downtown London, drove into the suburbs, and then entered a vast manor.
This manor is far more luxurious than Perilla Manor. It is more like a palace than a manor.
The carriage stopped in front of the back gate of the manor. Carter couldn’t wait to rush out of the car for a breath of fresh air.
Two soldiers in red came forward and dragged Duan Feizhuo off the carriage.
“Let me go!” he yelled. “What is this place?”
The soldier remained silent, and escorted Duan Feizhuo into the palace. They walked for a long time through the maze of corridors, and finally entered a bathroom.
The bathtub has been filled with hot water, soap and neatly folded towels are placed on the shelf next to it. Two well-dressed male servants stepped forward, took Duan Feizhuo from the soldier’s hands, unwittingly tore off his smelly clothes, and pushed him into the bathtub.
Clerk Carter wandered to the door and told the two footmen “Quickly. Ten minutes.”
“Yes, sir,” replied the manservant respectfully.
“Wait, what are you guys doing?!”
One of the two male servants picked up the towel, and the other took out the bath brush, and began to clean Duan Feizhuo like they were washing pots and dishes.
He screamed again and again, but the well-trained valet didn’t seem to hear anything. They washed Duan Feizhuo from head to toe, shaved him, and brought out a brand new dress for him to wear. Finally, I didn’t forget to spray him with some perfume.
When they left the bathroom, Duan Feizhuo’s skin was flushed red by them.
Secretary Carter stood outside the door and looked him over from head to toe.
“Like a man.” He arrogantly put the pocket watch back into his pocket.
The servant returned Duan Feizhuo to the soldier. They made him follow Carter.
“If you are not allowed to speak later, just shut up.” Carter said.
A group of people went downstairs from the stairs dedicated to the servants, came to the hall, climbed up the main stairs, and entered the largest room on the second floor.
This is the most luxurious room Duan Feizhuo has ever seen. The ground is covered with a red plush carpet, and the price of one foot can be measured in gold. The chandeliers hanging overhead were not cheap pieces of glass, but real crystal. All furniture is made of fine mahogany, and every inch is carved with exquisite relief.
There is only one woman in such a spacious room.
She was sitting alone on a high-backed chair, reading a book on her lap with her head down.
She was old, gray-haired, and wrinkled. A gorgeous white long dress with a blue ribbon on the chest. She may have been a slender beauty when she was young, but time is not forgiving, and now she has gained weight.
The two soldiers straightened their backs and saluted the woman. Secretary Carter bowed deeply, almost bent at ninety degrees.
Seeing Duan Feizhuo frozen in place, he hurriedly pressed Duan Feizhuo’s back and made him bow too.
The woman raised her head and nodded at the soldiers. “Thank you, gentlemen.”
The two soldiers walked out of the room with goose steps.
There is only one woman in the whole world who can make soldiers so obedient and Carter so respectful.
That is the woman who stands at the pinnacle of this country and bears her name for an entire era.
Duan Feizhuo realized that he was standing in front of Queen Victoria.
